By means of background, the International Space Sector Interest Network is an international forum that brings together practitioners from across the international space sector to share best practices, exchange knowledge, facilitate discussions and events, and support capability building.

Through our Spotlight series we shine a light on individuals and companies leading delivery of complex Missions. Through this our Intersection series we explore adjacent sectors to explore what can be learned applied in the space sector, specifically around capabilities, skills and behaviours.

Turning our attention to this podcast, we explore a topic that sits at the heart of every successful mission, programme and organisation: high performance.

Whether we're launching satellites, delivering complex programmes, developing new technologies or coordinating international partnerships, success rarely comes down to technical excellence alone. It depends on people. How they perform under pressure. How they work together. How they respond when things don't go to plan.

Our guest today knows a thing or two about operating in high-pressure environments.

Ollie Phillips, Founder, Optimist Performance

Ollie PhillipsOllie Phillips is a former England Rugby Sevens Captain, World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year, entrepreneur, explorer, author, keynote speaker and performance coach. Throughout his career, he's led teams in some of the most demanding and competitive environments imaginable, where preparation, resilience, leadership and teamwork are tested every single day.

Since leaving professional sport, Ollie has worked with organisations around the world, helping leaders and teams understand what it takes to build cultures that consistently deliver exceptional results and embarked on adventures which have seen him circumnavigate the globe, cycle across America, and led expeditions to the North Pole & Everest.

Beyond sport and adventure, Ollie has led an Olympic rugby programme, become a Director at PwC, and founded Optimist Performance, where he now works with leaders and teams to turn the lessons of high.

Today we're going to explore what project professionals, programme leaders and the space sector can learn from his experiences. We'll talk about leadership, resilience, accountability, decision-making under pressure, and why the highest-performing teams often succeed not because they avoid setbacks, but because of how they respond to them.
